The original site of this beautiful wooden lighthouse was at Akaroa Heads. The lighthouse was built in 1879 and served until 1980 when it was replaced by an automatic beacon. The lighthouse was then moved to the quaint town of Akaroa where it is a distinctive feature on the waterfront.
